FLIGHT DELAYED? There is no such thing as flight delayed. The in word now is Retimed. This is what happened to us during our family trip using #AirAsia from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, recently.
Afiq Hilman’s first flight
Plus, we had promised to return the rented van at 6PM and re-weight all our bags before checking-in. While my nephew and I waited for the rental represantative to collect the van, my sister, my mum and nieces were in charge of the bags.

Being the normal not really fully-functioning, mad, crazy and shouting at each other family, we completed all our tasks; in returning the van, reorganise the bags, printed the tags and drop baggage all within 30 minutes after arriving at the airport.

Happy with everything, and done our Maghrib and Isya’ jama’ prayer, lo and behold, I received two texts from AirAsia informing me that our flight home was retimed to 11:45PM and would reach KLIA2 at 2:45AM the next day. Whaat? My nephew had a training program on that next day and if we reach KLIA at 2:45AM, he would just had enough time to shower before hitting the road to Bangsar at 6AM. He won’t get a wink of sleep at all.

I took a deep breath and told my sister to change into a “battle-mode” as we got many explanation to do at the counter. We marched to the customer service and explained the situation we faced. as we’ve already checked-in our luggage, before we received the notification.

Alhamdulillah, the matter was resolved swiftly. Not just we managed to get an earlier flight at 8:30PM, we were also given six hot seats, which is more expensive than the normal seats we originally purchased. Alhamdulillah too that we got our in-flight food as bought and luggages were re-direct to the new flights and arrived safely at KLIA2. So here are some tips for those taking AirAsia flights to your destination.
- Always arrive early to the airport to check-in and drop your luggage at the Drop Luggage Counter
- Be alert on any changes on flight schedule – AirAsia is famous for delayed departure or even now they call it Retimed.
- Keep your handphone close. Make sure it is linked with your emails and check your messages regularly
- When you receive a Retimed notification on your handphone, immediately head towards the Customer Service and explain calmly about your situation. The staffs are always willing to help out.
- If the plane is not full, they could change the flight for your, be it earlier or maybe a tad late. It is easier if you travel alone or in a very small group.
- We were lucky to immediately informed the customer service staff and got all in a row seats. If we were late in dealing with the problem, we may be placed at different seats.
