YOU THOUGHT YOU know all about designer brands, but actually you don’t.

Well for a person like me who is not bothered about brands and most of the time clueless, I had to resort to google whenever I saw designer labels hanging from the racks at TKMAXX while in Glasgow, Scotland circa 2006-2011.

I only knew that Furla is considered an affordable designer label after a friend took a picture of herself (selfie) in front of the label’s outlet in Paris some 10 years ago. Yep, that’s me. Pathetic, duh!

So, when Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Commissioner Datuk Seri Amar Singh Ishar Singh mentioned the list of designer goods seized from Malaysia’s previous Prime Minister during a press conference today, I was ready with a pen and paper. Yes, I am old-fashioned ex-journalist who rely more on pen and a piece of paper rather than typing like mad on phones or tablets.

I think between all the press conferences I saw on fb live, the pcs led by CCID director are the most anticipated ones. Everybody just wanted to know the valued items of the cash and designer goods seized from Datuk Sri Najib Tun Razak six premises including in Langgak Duta and in Putrajaya, recently.

About a month ago, three luxury apartments belonging to the former Prime Minister were raided where police carted away 284 boxes containing designer handbags and 72 bags filled with jewellery, watches, other valuables and cash of various denominations.

When Hermes Birkins were mentioned as the most luxurious designer handbags seized, the netizen were on googling spree, trying to find out how much each one would cost. Well, after much info sharing, we can deduce, a piece of Birkin can buy us a unit of PPRT (poor people’s housing project) flat.

When Datuk Amar Singh mentioned Bijan, we all scrambled googling for the name. Me included. What the heck is Bijan? I guessed for today, (and probably the next few), traffic to House of Bijan will skyrocket and mostly they are from Malaysia.

Bijan is one of the labels mentioned during the PC. Apart from Hermes Birkins, other designer labels that are mentioned including Chanel and Judith Lieber among others.

Let’s see other exclusive brands that you may (not) know. According to fashionlady site, here are the 10 most expensive designer handbags in the world for this year.

Well, that was not all. In all 47 boxes containing 567 designer handbags seized, 272 are Hermes Birkins with a total value of RM531 Million. The rest are yet to be valued at. It makes one wonder how rich can DSNR and his wife DSRM can be? Even if they were gifts, who would have given so many gifts?

And that was not all, it was also revealed that 12,000 items of jewelleries seized were valued at RM442 Million and this was only on the gems themselves excluding the workmanship cost. The retail value could be 50% higher than that. So we are looking at probably RM800Mil to RM1 Bil of the total value.

Out of 12,000 jewelleries, 2,200 are rings, 1,400 necklaces, 2,100 bangles, 2,800 earings, 1,600 brooches and 14 tiaras. The most expensive jewellery appraised is a necklace valued at between RM910 Mil and RM1.1 Bil.

This could be the rare 22-carat pink diamond necklace said to be purchased by Jho Low at Lorraine Schwartz in New York, as a gift to DSRM using the 1MDB money. The said pink diamond cost around US$23 Mil (approximately RM91.9 Mil).

The police took more than 2 weeks and had to work during Raya holidays with experts to appraise the the values of these jewelry. Rare stones such as pink diamonds are not easily valued as they are of course rare.

Such a lavish lifestyle our former Prime Minister and his wife has led. This is probably worse than Imelda Marcos. I just can’t wait for the next press conference to know more about the biggest crooks in the country.

Honestly, their splurges on everything expensive are just too mind boggling. If Malaysians did nothing, I guess our country will go bankrupt in a few years time.
